With R&B instincts, gospel roots, and hip hop tendencies, Babylung digs deep into the soul to create music both unequivocal and honest. His tender voice and soothing lyrics have reached over 285,000 listeners globally with over 1,000,000 streams and has been featured on Spotify Canada's New Music Friday, Just Vibing, and R&B Favourites playlists.
As a dynamic performer, Babylung demands the crowd's attention with his often improvised arrangements and call & response songwriting, reminiscent of the Gospel music he was raised on. As an adolescent, Babylung spent his time writing poetry, freestyle rapping, and reciting slam poems and soon discovered his natural gift for storytelling. Having also been surrounded with music growing up in a family of church musicians, the combination of music and literature was inevitable and finally catalyzed after he suffered a traumatic brain injury playing football in an All-Star game against top college recruits.
During his healing process, Babylung entered a prolific stage of songwriting and released over 30+ songs on his Soundcloud throughout the years of 2016-2017, including his underground hit "May Flowers". After his doctor advised him to quit football for his mental health, he decided to fully pursue his career in music. This led him to Toronto where he attended the Harris Institute to study Artist Management under industry veterans such as Bob Roper (Rush, Van Halen) and Anne-Marie Smith (Kardinal Offishall). During this period, he gained clarity in his artistic visions and was taken notice by top music executives which led to a string of successful shows, studio sessions, and writing sessions with Toronto’s thriving creatives.
His talent was further recognized when he was selected for the 2019 MusiCounts Scholarship and mentorship program (associated with The Junos), and the Harris International Program full scholarship to complete his Bachelor's Degree in Commercial Music at the University of the West of Scotland, fulfilling his longtime dream of studying and working in the UK. Here, he released his album “Theia Mania” and soon gathered a live band of genre-diverse musicians to perform in Glasgow’s thriving live music scene. With elements of hip hop, R&B, pop, and rock, he pulled crowds of curious music lovers with his fresh sound. Currently, Babylung is preparing to release his homecoming album which touches on these experiences and combines elements of R&B vocals, Hip Hop production, and Gospel-eque harmonies.
